Dana Whyte is a communications strategist at Byrum & Fisk. She is an award-winning journalist and communicator with a wide range of experience in storytelling, crisis communications, marketing, social media and more.

Prior to joining the firm, Dana served as the communications manager and spokesperson for the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety for more than two years, leading all strategic communication initiatives for MSU DPPS. Dana played a pivotal role in developing and fostering the department’s relationship with the media, including leading the department’s communication efforts during the active violence incident on campus in February 2023. While in this position, Dana also implemented a department-wide rebranding initiative, redesigned the department’s website, and created an internal monthly employee newsletter to enhance internal communication.

Prior to working at MSU, Dana served as a television news reporter for four years. She worked for both WOOD-TV8 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan, covering historic events such as the coronavirus pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the 2020 Presidential Election.

Dana received her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and her master’s degree from Michigan State University in Strategic Communication. In her spare time, Dana enjoys reading, traveling, and serving as a fitness instructor at barre3 East Lansing.
